Here are four tips to help sellers get the most from their home sales.

By now, everyone is aware of how hot the current real estate market is. If you’re selling your home this spring or summer, today we’re sharing our top suggestions for how you can maximize your investment:

1. Make sure your curb appeal is on point. Spruce up your landscaping and make your front porch look clean and inviting. You should consider putting a fresh coat of paint on your front door and shutters—adding a pop of color is an easy, cheap way to really distinguish your home from the competition.

2. Touch up your interior paint. Freshen up the paint inside your house; I suggest Pure White by Sherwin-Williams or a similar color. A neutral color like that is attractive and won’t alienate your buyers the way a personalized color palette might. Don’t forget to touch up or replace your trim as well.

3. Depersonalize your home. As much as we love our family photos and other personal effects, it’s important to pack such things away during the showing process. For one, it will help buyers visualize themselves living in your home. Secondly, it will remove some of the clutter that can detract from your home’s presentation.

4. Remove your pets from your home during showings. If you have pets, leave them in daycare or with a trusted friend or family member. Pets can cause complications during the showing process, and some buyers may be put off by them. Taking them somewhere else during showings will allow buyers to walk freely through the home without worry. Also, be sure to neutralize any odors left by your pets. Scent is a very important sense to appeal to during the selling process.
